Are you a fresh graduate who’s seeking for your first job? Are you set for your first ever job interview? Although you might feel anxious and jittery, the solution to a lucrative experience is to prep for the interview, rehearse yourself, try to relax, and of course, dress properly.

Dressing appropriately for your first job interview is very important. If you dress properly, the interviewers will think that you are self-reliant, flexible, well-mannered and fit for the position. According to the studies conducted by UK and Turkey team, the way you dress makes a big difference to what other people think about you.

So, wear appropriate clothes so that you can make your best first impression at your interview. For a little help, check the list below on what to wear for your first interview.

Business Formal Workplace

There is no denying that what you wear to your first job interview can certainly set you apart from the rest. It delivers a message of how you see the position and also about how you handle yourself.

However, not all companies are equal. Meaning, some companies have a stricter dress code, and others have flexible ones. If by chance, you apply in a formal business workplace, then you need to meet their standard dress codes.

Business formal workplace requires you to dress formally, with suits and dresses, ties, high heels, etc. For the ladies out there, you can opt to wear pantsuits or pencil skirts, completing the look with a crisp white dress shirt and a blazer. For men, a well-fitted suit is perfect for job interviews.

Furthermore, whether male or female, make sure that you wear the right accessories like shoes and ties. Also, you need to have good grooming. Clean your fingernails, have a great hairstyle and spray some perfume. These actions can certainly make a difference in your job interview.

Business Casual Workplace

Business casual attires are clothing that is less formal compared to the usual business formal wear but still give a businesslike and professional impression. For a casual business workplace, go for refined, neat look.

Don’t include items like sleeveless tops, flip-flops, and shorts on your list though. But you can opt for chinos or slacks, button-down dresses without a blazer, and casual dresses or skirts. If you have a job interview with a casual business company such as startups, know their exact dress code to avoid wearing inappropriate attire.

For women, you can choose to wear a button-down shirt, a pair of pants, and a  fitting blazer. Just try to make it feel fresh and young. For guys, you can also wear a pair of trousers and a neat button-down shirt. Don’t forget to wear a sensible pair of shoes to complete the look.

Casual Workplace

If you are applying for a job in a very casual environment like a local diner or a retail store, you still need to put much effort when dressing. Don’t make an impression that you are not taking the job interview seriously, just because the workplace is very casual and relaxed.

For women, you can opt to wear a good pair of trousers and a seemingly professional blouse, or a laid-back dress with a blazer. A good-looking and sturdy flat is also appropriate in a casual environment. Shop for these items in any online store like French Connection.

For men, a blouse or a polo shirt, and a pair of dark-washed pants is your go-to. Even though it seems a little bit plain and simple, be sure to use professional shoes like Monk Strap Dress Shoe. Also, avoid wearing sneakers.
